Babel Technologies contributes to the extension of the ESPRIT project RESPITE

The RESPITE project (REcognition of Speech by Partial Information TEchniques) is funded by the EC ESPRIT Long Term Research programme from January 1999 for up to 3 years. RESPITE target in-car applications and cellular telephone recognition. RESPITE focuses on new methodologies for robust Automatic Speech Recognition based on missing-data theory and multiple classification streams. RESPITE has provided a link between ASR and models of hearing, work in Computational Auditory Scene Analysis. 

The partners of the projects (University of Sheffield (UK, Coordinator), Daimler-Chrysler (G), FPMs (B), ICP (F), BaBel (B), IDIAP (CH), and ICSI (USA, subcontractor)) will participate to the second amendment of the RESPITE contract - a 6 month extension, in order to develop a demonstrator that will include all the different research from all the partners.

Babel-Infovox released Icelandic TTS based on diphone concatenation technology

Babel-Infovox already have developed the formant based TTS (Infovox 230) for Icelandic. In order to increase the naturalness of the voice, Babel-Infovox released the Icelandic TTS for Infovox 330. Babel developed the Greek Version of its Speech recognition system for Telecom and Multimedia applications

TELEVIRTUAL is using Babel2lips for lips synchronisation of virtual characters with speech

Babel Technologies was selected by TELEVIRTUAL to integrate ASR technology (babel2lips) in their virtual animation character Vince the Fish. Vince's unique capabilities are the direct result of combining Televirtual's award-winning Mask-VR animation system with Babel2Lips, a realtime sound to speech software system from Babel Technologies. Vince was designed, developed and built by the Televirtual team for Initial Television and Channel 4.

Toby-Churchill is using Pocket babil TTS system

Toby-Churchill Ltd signed a strategic agreement with Babel Technologies Corporate Group to integrate the Pocket Babil TTS (ported to run on a Linux/Strongarm platform) into their new product (LightWriters). Toby Churchill Ltd is using Pocket Babil TTS system for its Linux based embedded platform (PDA) for speech disabled people . The product will be available in the following languages : British English, Dutch, French, Spanish, German, Brazilian & European Portuguese.
