Babel Infovox appoints CEO.

Former General Manager of ScanSoft Nordic, Lars-Erik Larsson, has joined Babel Technologies as Chief Executive Officer of Babel Infovox. Larsson’s appointment is effective immediately and he will based at Babel Infovox’ Swedish office.

Larsson will be responsible for Babel Infovox' corporate strategy, its day-to-day operations in the Nordic regions and for strengthening the company's messaging and positionning int he Nordic market.

Larsson has over 20 years of experience in the high-tech industry, working with organizations including Unisys and GlobalOne ( a member of the France Telecom Group ).

Prior to joining Babel, Larsson was a senior director at speech and language specialist, Lernout & Hauspie. There, Larsson was responsible for establishing and developping the company's presence in the Nordic region, as well as being responsible for the company's sales and marketing operation in that territory.

Commenting on Larsson's appointment, Vincent Fontaine, CEO of Babel Technologies said : "Lars-Erik joins Babel at an exciting time. The speech and language market is buoyant and Babel is experiencing increasing demand for its speech and language solutions. Toby-Churchill extends partnership with Babel Technologies 

Toby-Churchill Ltd, the leading manufacturer of portable text-based communication aids for people with speech disabilities, has extended its existing agreement with Babel to now include new languages recently released by Babel Technologies. This contract extension will enable UK-based Toby-Churchill to localize its Lightwriter products to Czech, Turkish and Arabic languages.

Toby-Churchill Ltd is using Pocket Babil TTS system for its Linux based embedded platform ( PDA ) for speech-disabled people.

Public service information in Sweden is now widely available via teh Internet. In the city of Uppsala, where the majority of the households have access to the net, a recently set-up website has becone one of the most important channels of information for a whole new group of users. The service - Internet Sound Interface ( tm ) - boasts web pages that talk, making it ideal for residents of Uppsala who may be disabled, or suffer from defective vision or dyslexia. For this group, the speaking Internet service is free of charge. At the core of the site, is Babel's Infovox 330 TTS system, wich enables the contents of the site to be read  aloud to those who visit it.
